Care, Guidance and Support

Through our tutorial system students are fully supported. A pastoral support team, including form tutors, heads of year and academic mentors, will be in place to make sure all our students’ needs are met.

Our SENDCo will coordinate the support for any students with additional learning needs.  All students also have regular one-to-one meetings with their form tutor to reflect on their academic and personal goals.

Through the pastoral programme students will participate in a range of activities including workshops and seminars that includes UCAS applications, apprenticeships, employability and life after sixth form. The students will benefit from visiting experts including admissions tutors and speakers and lectures from local businesses. The programme will include sessions in which students address a variety of subject matters including our British values, the world we live in and to take stock and to celebrate achievements. Other work will include a focus on study skills, exam preparation and work experience.

Whilst studying at Athena Sixth Form College students will receive outstanding pastoral care. They will all be assigned a pastoral tutor who will get to know them well through individual mentor meetings that are held on a regular basis. Alongside pastoral guidance, tutors provide academic support to ensure that students are well supported and enjoy a successful experience at college. Tutors support students from when they arrive at the college to when they leave, in all aspects of their education.

Students will develop a variety of personal, social and employability skills that range from how to look after themselves both in and outside of school, to how to progress onto the next level of their education. Tutors will continually assess how they are doing and provide relevant support to make sure that they realise their potential.
